That's because it's extendable via plug-ins, which effectively enable you to build your own personalised version of Deluge.

Fancy something that resembles uTorrent without the unwanted software? No problem. Want to add alphabetical downloading, move downloaded files to specific directories according to the file type, adjust speed according to network conditions, create pretty graphs, schedule everything, integrate with Chrome or Firefox, or batch-rename downloads?

That's not a problem either. Read our full Deluge review. It's attracted some criticism over the years, however: it's ad-supported and many users argue that the most recent versions are a little too heavy on the advertising and bundled software front.

Make sure you read each step of the installer carefully and uncheck any software you don't want to install. That aside, uTorrent is useful, effective and doesn't gobble up too much of your system's resources: the entire app mainly runs in your web browser.

Although it isn't the official BitTorrent app, it's been maintained by BitTorrent for the last decade. It's worth noting that uTorrent has a record of security problems, the most recent of which had the potential to let hackers control key functions of the client and spy on users' downloads.

BitTorrent has since released a patch for the vulnerability. Read our full uTorrent review. You might be wondering why BitTorrent has its own torrent client when it also maintains uTorrent — especially when the BitTorrent app is a rebranded version of uTorrent.

Vuze is full of shit that I don't need, like the "HD Network" stuff. It also doesn't seem any faster than uTorrent. So, if you're looking for a basic BT client, use uTorrent. If you want the Vuze shit, use it.

Plus, uTorrent has customizable icons, so there's no war between looks. I downloaded and installed Utorrent, and being a longtime Vuze user, I could use some help understanding how utorrent compares or even works:.

In Vuze, I search a keyword of what I'm looking for, and then I sift thru all the choices, choose, and then download. But it seems like Utorrent searches for torrents but doesn't actually provide the download? I don't really get it. Only some anonymous usage statistics, and only if you've checked the checkmark in your Preferences otherwise it won't send anything. But I think there's no reason to worry. Whats exactly can be passes around with out our knowledge if one prefers to use utorrent..

I'm afraid I do not have enough knowledge to comment on Azureus or uTorrent. Nicely done lens though! VUZE is good if you're not using windows because it's the fastest for non-windows machines, but if you have windows as most people do then uTorrent kicks VUZ's ass! Funny how things turn out, I remember BitTorrent being the biggest and most popular client out there. Now they kill it and start using uTorrent as the base for the official BitTorrent client.

Basically all they do is re-brand it and rename it to 'BitTorrent'. So yeah, uTorrent is most popular for sure with Azureus aka Vuze possibly taking the 2nd place.
