All cables become unreliable over time. VGA and power cables tend to be resilient, alas entropy catches up to it. It is, umm, impressive seeing how some can jam up and bend the pins on a VGA cable.
I haven't seen any outright fail, But I have seen a quite few put a blue haze over everything. Everything fails after a while VGA is good for around 40m, so I think you have 2 choices. Either way, before you run it I would suggest setting up the monitor with the ft next to the computer to make sure all 3 show up at the same time. Do your troubleshooting there to make sure it all works, then run the cable.
That should eliminate some of the leg work. I guess this confuses me, seeing as they make tons and tons of 50ft VGA cables and even ft long cables as well. Is the cable I will most likely end up getting along with a VGA splitter.
